Right out of the gate, let’s talk about what you’re probably already thinking: there has never been a more confusing time to figure out how to eat. One influencer tells you plants are poison; another says meat is the enemy. No, it’s carbs, someone else insists. It’s a shouting match out there, and meanwhile, you’re just trying to get through the laundry pile without needing a nap at 2:00 p.m. 

Trim Healthy Mama is different. We aren’t a “diet.” We don’t do starvation, we don’t cut out whole food groups, and we certainly don’t believe God created food to torment you! 

We believe in Food Freedom

That means celebrating the diversity of God’s creation (meats, fats and carbs like potatoes, grains, and fruits) and using them in a way that is kind to your waistline and your hormones. We’ve watched millions slim down and find their vibrancy again by following simple, common-sense rhythms. Whether you are a Purist who grinds her own grain for sourdough bread  or a Drive-Thru Sue who grabs a rotisserie chicken on the way home then opens a can of green beans, there is a place for you here.

Our Story: From Frustrated to "Food Freedom"

Believe it or not, Trim Healthy Mama started because we were completely fed up. Between the two of us, we have 18 children (yes, you read that right!), and back in 2011, we were both at a metabolic dead end.

Pearl wanted to drop a couple of dress sizes, but every diet she tried left her “skinny fat” and grumpy. Serene, on the other hand, had gone to the other extreme—an ultra-rigid raw food diet that left her underweight, bloated, and losing her hair. We were two sisters at opposite ends of the health spectrum, but we both had the same problem: We were hungry, exhausted, and done with man-made fads.

We decided to stop looking for the “next big thing” and started looking at God’s design. We dove into the science and the Scriptures and discovered a beautiful, simple truth: You can have your fats and your carbs, too—you just shouldn’t always have them in the same meal if you’re looking to trim down!

We called it “Separating Your Fuels.” We started experimenting in our own kitchens, creating “Satisfying” S Meals full of healthy fats and “Energizing” E Meals full of slow-burning carbs. The weight fell off Pearl, Serene’s health rebounded, and we were so excited we practically shouted it from the rooftops! We wrote it all down in a massive, 640-page book at our kitchen tables—no investors, no fancy marketing, just a lot of prayer and a home computer.

That DIY book became a New York Times bestseller by word-of-mouth alone. Mamas started telling mamas, and a movement was born. We realized we weren’t just selling a book; we were building a sisterhood of women who wanted to be good stewards of their bodies without the vanity and bondage of diet culture.
