Note

This recipe is part of our Budget Smoothie Ideas that begins on page 247.

From pages 247-248, "By far the most affordable way to make an on-plan smoothie is to use a coconut milk or heavy cream dilution All you do is use 2-3 tablespoons of heavy cream and dilute these options with water. You may also freeze the coconut milk in ice cube trays and use 2-3 cubes with added water. It's important not to pour half a cup of heavy cream in your smoothie. That's consuming needless calories whereas 2-3 tablespoons will do the job nicely.

These smoothies can be made either more "liquidy" like a shake, or almost like a whip or soft-serve ice cream by adding less liquid and more frozen ingredients. Whips have even better texture when made in the food processor. Glucomannan helps out, too.

Most of the following recipes are considered S in their original recipe state. They can easily be made E by replacing the full-fat cream or coconut milk with a little light coconut milk (straight from the can) or pre-made frozen cubes. Then include frozen or fresh fruit. Light coconut milk usualy has between 60-80 percent less fat. E smoothies could then utilize fruits other than berries.

Can we remind you again to please steer clear of bananas? Or, use  only half a banana in an E smoothie. Feed whole bananas to your growing children. We offer only S or E choices here for these budget smoothies. Fuel Pull Smoothies are better left to whey protein powder since it offers more protein, which is nice when you're pulling out your primary fuels."

NSI (if using other store-bought, plan approved sweetener and if using other store-bought, plan approved whey protein powder)
