This recipe is designed to nuke . . . we mean “cuke” your bloated tummy troubles away. Wake up and have the Biggie smoothie as your breakfast. It is filling and delicious in a feisty, yet creamy sort of way. This is the one smoothie in this chapter that must be consumed alone. Don’t eat other foods with it. It is medicine for your body, so allow it to work its healing. You don’t have to chug it down . . . sip on it if you like, then after a couple hours, if you can’t finish it, leave some for a later snack.
Cucumbers are alkaline, hydrating, and full of cleansing fiber. They contain multiple B vitamins that ease the stress we too easily wear all over our bodies, especially in our tummies. Ginger is the king of anti-inflammatories and it helps pop those gas bubbles that swirl and churn and make you feel like a bloated goat. Apples and baobab are full of pectin, which helps get the peristaltic action of your digestive system moving along. When there is a traffic jam in the ol’ colon we need a little pectin to clear the road (or should we say . . . the load). If you feel like you need another full shake for lunch for more intense cleansing, go ahead and do a half-day cleanse. Have a regular afternoon snack and dinner, as you don’t need to do this longer than a half day. This recipe is found in the "Gut Healing Shakes & Smoothies" section, on page 488 of the Trim Healthy Table Cookbook.
