Fry the egg in the butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat; season with the salt and pepper. Drop the cheese slice onto the egg and let it melt. Add the bacon or sausage and cook until crisp in the same skillet.

Smear the waffles with some butter if desired, then layer them with the cheese-fried egg, and top with the breakfast meat.
