This recipe is designed to nuke . . . we mean “cuke” your bloated tummy troubles away. Wake up and have the Biggie smoothie as your breakfast. It is filling and delicious in a feisty, yet creamy sort of way. This is the one smoothie in this chapter that must be consumed alone. Don’t eat other foods with it. It is medicine for your body, so allow it to work its healing. You don’t have to chug it down . . . sip on it if you like, then after a couple hours, if you can’t finish it, leave some for a later snack.
Cucumbers are alkaline, hydrating, and full of cleansing fiber. They contain multiple B vitamins that ease the stress we too easily wear all over our bodies, especially in our tummies. Ginger is the king of anti-inflammatories and it helps pop those gas bubbles that swirl and churn and make you feel like a bloated goat. Apples and baobab are full of pectin, which helps get the peristaltic action of your digestive system moving along. When there is a traffic jam in the ol’ colon we need a little pectin to clear the road (or should we say . . . the load). If you feel like you need another full shake for lunch for more intense cleansing, go ahead and do a half-day cleanse. Have a regular afternoon snack and dinner, as you don’t need to do this longer than a half day. Single Serve Recipe
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Choose your level of ginger boldness (don’t be afraid, go for it!) and blend it with the cool water in a blender on low for about 30 seconds—not on high or the fiber will become so much a part of the liquid that you cannot strain it out. (If making the Baby size of this drink you will have to blend the ginger with both the kefir and water, otherwise your blender won’t have enough liquid to blend.)
-
Strain the liquid through a fine-mesh sieve into a small bowl. Grab the strained ginger pulp and give it a squeeze into the bowl to harvest all the medicinal goodness.
-
Rinse the blender and place the strained ginger juice into it along with the kefir, cucumber, apple, MCT oil, lecithin, collagen, salt, stevia, baobab powder (if using), lemon juice, and ice. Blend until perfectly smooth.
-
Combine the gelatin and cool water in a mug and stir to dissolve. Add the boiled water and stir again. Add to the blender and blend again until whipped.
Note
- Best not to use full fat kefir here due to the inclusion of apple.
- You’ll notice this recipe does not include whey protein. A few rare people tend to bloat with whey protein and this smoothie is anti-bloat, so let’s leave it out this time. You get some protein with the kefir and gelatin, but it is okay to sometimes have meals with a little less protein. This is designed to be a cleansing smoothie rather than a building smoothie.
LAST NOTE: Since this is an FP smoothie, you are not using a full apple. Give the rest of the apple pieces to the children or put them in a baggie with lemon juice for later.
