Cheeseburger Pie (S)
Pearl chats: "This decadent dish wins over reluctant husbands by the thousands! Anyway you like your cheeseburger can apply to this pie. You could include a layer of finely diced sautéed onions, dill pickles, jalapeños, or even a layer of tomatoes to the basic recipe. Our children love to top this pie with a little mustard and a lot of ketchup. Serve it with a large side salad and you’ve got dinner!" This recipe is found on page 326 of the original Trim Healthy Mama book and page 149 of the Trim Healthy Mama Cookbook.

  1. Brown ground meat and drain the fat.
  2. Add onion powder and mineral salt. (Alternatively, use 1 packet onion soup mix instead of onion powder and salt. It makes it taste fantastic, but is not as healthy and has a couple of carbs.)
  3. Place meat mixture in casserole dish and stir in half of the grated cheese.
  4. Place layer of any optional mentioned ingredients over meat and cheese combination, or skip this step for a more basic pie.
  5. In another bowl beat eggs, mayo, heavy cream, mineral salt, and black pepper.
  6. Pour mix over the ingredients already added to the dish and then top with the remaining cheese.
  7. Bake at 350 for 35 minutes. Serve with either, or both, a side salad and steamed buttery vegetables.

Health Benefits of the THM Baobab Boost Powder…

Boost Juice is a one-of-a-kind health tonic that is perfect when you are sick and need a boost to your immune system, but is also perfect to drink everyday to keep you energized while boosting your daily nutrition! This drinks features our Baobab Boost Powder which is your multi-tasking, multi-vitamin and mineral supplement that you need in your life! And best of all it is 100% real food!

Its citrus and sherbet tasting dried flesh has five times the fiber of oats, and higher antioxidant levels than any food on the planet (8 times that of the super berry Acai, and more than both blueberries and pomegranates combined!) It has more than twice the calcium of milk, double the magnesium and iron of spinach and is loaded with six times the potassium of bananas.

Most importantly, Baobab Boost is a delicious way of boosting your vitamin C. Having a rich supply of this vitamin is a huge game changer when it comes to losing weight. Vitamin C depleted people are resistant to fat loss. Clinical studies show those with adequate vitamin C levels oxidize 30% more fat during exercise than individuals with low levels. Plainly put, vitamin C helps prevent weight gain and makes it easier to lose it. It also improves blood sugar levels and supports adrenal health (adrenal depleted people are often resistant to fat loss). Vitamin C also enables proteins such as collagen and gelatin to work more effectively and safely in your body.

Fuel Pull Option: Use egg whites instead of a whole scrambled egg.

The Trim Healthy Noodles are carb, fat, and calorie-free. They are available at the Trim Healthy Mama Website along with the THM Gentle Sweet. However, you can buy konjac noodles at many grocery stores these days in the refrigerated fresh produce section. Grocery store bought konjac noodles often have fillers like potato starch (they can still work on-plan, since the amounts are not high) and have a fishy smell before rinsing - due to the brine water they are packed in. Don't be put off. This smell goes completely away with rinsing. Most people find the Trim Healthy Mama brand to have no odor at all.

Serving Suggestions:

- If you do not have the MCT oil or whey protein powder, you can substitute with 1/2 cup of *unsweetened almond milk.

- If this drink is too tart then add a little more pure stevia extract and vanilla. Remember that the mineral salt balances out the flavor spectrum and also provides electrolytes and minerals.

RECIPE AUTHOR: Serene Allison

You can read about the health and weight loss benefits of The Shrinker below!

Healing Shrinker: You can make this a Healing Shrinker by omitting the nut milk and replacing with ½ teaspoon of Just Gelatin, 1 teaspoon Integral Collagen, 1 teaspoon MCT oil, and an optional ¼ teaspoon Sunflower Lecithin. You will dissolve the gelatin into the mug of hot brewed tea, stir very well, then add to the blender along with the collagen, oil, lecithin, and ½ cup cold water. This makes an ultra-creamy shrinker.

_______________

Health and Weight Loss Benefits of The Shrinker

The foundation ingredient of SIP THE SHRINKER is a beloved Chinese tea called OOLONG or WU-LONG. In ancient Chinese books it is regarded as an elixir which contributed to prolonged life. It is known as having the richest and most complex flavor among all the varieties of tea.

Here is an embarrassingly modest list of just a few of OOLONG‘s wonders:

  • OOLONG prevents obesity and is powerfully active in burning fat. Research shows that the polyphenols that are highest in OOLONG tea, help activate thermogenesis which increases fat oxidation in your body. Scientists from the University of Tokushima found that OOLONG tea can double the amount of fat excreted by the body. He reported that two cups of OOLONG tea burned over 157% more fat than those who drank the same amount of green tea!!! Just one cup can help burn off an extra 67 calories. Yeah!!!!!
  • OOLONG lowers blood sugar levels and can be an effective treatment for diabetics. A Taiwanese study found that OOLONG tea controls blood glucose levels very effectively. The thorough study showed that plasma glucose and fructosamine levels dropped significantly for OOLONG tea drinkers. If I went through even a shortened list of OOLONG tea’s benefits one by one I’d keep you here for hours of reading so I am going to shove a few together.
  • OOLONG improves vitality… prolongs lifespan… combats the aging of skin… treats eczema and rashes… prevents heart disease and cancer… reduces high blood pressure… it’s a physical and mental stress reliever… strengthens teeth and prevents tooth decay… improves brain power… you get the picture. Best of all it makes a scrumptious drink called the “SHRINKER” and you get all these extras and more thrown in for good measure.
  • OOLONG contains antioxidants that powerfully destroy free radicals. Research conducted by Dr. Kenichi Yanagimoto from the university of California, showed that only 15 days of OOLONG tea drinking enabled an incredible 50% reduction in free radicals.
  • Another study conducted by the academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Fujian Province concluded that stress levels reduced significantly with four servings of OOLONG each day for a week. SIP THE SHRINKER contains four servings of OOLONG. Hey, Mama! You may be only one week away from a more “calm” you.

Even though OOLONG is the main superstar of this recipe, the other co-star ingredients were carefully chosen by moi. They not only harmonize perfectly for taste enhancement, but they too help optimize fat loss, rev the metabolism, and provide extremely high antioxidant, nutrient, and anti- inflammatory properties. This drink is simple and inexpensive, but will provide more mineralizing “mojo” than some expensive, hoity-toity health tonic from the health food store.

Let me say just a small little tiddly bit about CINNAMON, the co-star.

  • CINNAMON regulates blood sugar. It slows the rate at which the stomach empties after meals. It not only stimulates insulin receptors, but also inhibits an enzyme that inactivates them so it creates more ability to use glucose. It only takes a scant half teaspoon to reduce blood sugar levels and that is easily provided in the SHRINKER… yay, for us!
  • CINNAMON reduces LDL cholesterol… it contains effective anti-infectious compounds against dangerous pathogens.
  • CINNAMON is also highly anti-inflammatory and reduces cytokines linked to arthritic pain. It also reduces chronic inflammation linked with neurological disorders.
  • CINNAMON reduces the proliferation of cancer cells. Research by Dr. P. Zoladz found that just smelling the wonderful odor of cinnamon improves brain activity.
  • It is effective for menstrual pain and infertility. This is because CINNAMON contains a natural chemical called cinnamaldehyde, which studies show increases the hormone progesterone in woman.
  • CINNAMON is also a natural food preservative. It is such a powerful antioxidant that it prevents oxidation more effectively than the chemical food preservatives BHT and BHA.

And, you might be asking why in the world is there CAYENNE PEPPER in this drink?! Well, read on about the benefits of HOT PEPPERS and I’m betting you’ll want to get a little of the fire under you.

  • THERMOGENIC FOOD – This means CAYENNE PEPPER will raise the temperature of your body and ignite your metabolism to burn more body fat. HOT PEPPERS burn up fat by consuming energy (calories). They increase your body’s heat production and oxygen consumption for about 20 minutes after eating, which means you are in a more calorie burning, instead of calorie storing mode during and post mealtime.
  • APPETITE SUPPRESSANT – Not only do they put a fire within your metabolism, but they also reduce the body’s desire to over eat. They give a natural satiety to the mind and body.
  • FIGHT PROSTATE CANCER – RED PEPPERS are richly endowed with a carotenoid called lycopene. This helps prevent prostate cancer and other cancers like those of the bladder, cervix and the pancreas. The capsaicin in hot peppers drives prostate cancer cells to kill themselves. These cancer cells literally commit suicide. Let’s be hot, saucy, helpful wives and give our hubbies plenty of this stuff at meal times to help protect them from this rampant disease. If you have a husband who has a tender palate and does not like spice, then you can help protect his prostate by suggesting he take cayenne pepper in a supplement form. A capsule does not break down until it is in parts of the body that will not burn like the opposite of heaven! Supplementing with mega dose PEPPER, in this form, has been documented as successful at reversing prostate cancer! Say “hooray!“, for a hot and saucy papa with a healthy prostate!
  • DIGESTIVE AID – Despite the wives’ tales, HOT PEPPERS are a not a cause, but actually a cure for stomach ulcers. They help kill bacteria in the stomach that can lead to ulcers. Yale University reported a close association with a much lower incidence of stomach cancer in Mexican workers who ate anywhere from 9 to 25 jalepeños a day than in the rest of the population. They are also a powerful gastric relief.
  • RELIEVE PAIN – The heat from PEPPERS come from capsaicin which predominates in the membranes and seeds of the hot pods. Capsaicin is extremely effective for relieving and preventing cluster, migraine, and sinus headaches. Capsaicin suppresses substance P production which is the body’s main mechanism for producing swelling and pain.
  • POTENT ANTI-INFLAMMATORY – HOT PEPPERS fight chronic, sub-clinical inflammation. They reduce inflammation like that found in arthritis and asthma.
  • FIGHT INFECTION – Capsaicin possesses powerful antibacterial properties. It fights and prevents chronic sinus infections (sinusitis). This natural chemical will clear out congested nasal passages like nothing else.
  • BURSTING WITH ANTIOXIDANTS, CARATENOIDS, MINERALS AND VITAMINS – PEPPERS are rich in vitamins A and C, which aid in preventing cell damage, cancer, and diseases relating to aging, plus they are immune boosting. People talk about oranges being high in vitamin C, but did you know that HOT green PEPPERS contain the highest amount of vitamin C out of all foods? In just half a cup you receive 303% of your daily allowance! Vitamin K abounds in peppers which promotes proper blood clotting, strengthens the bones, and helps protect cells from oxidative damage. You will also receive a good amount of potassium and folic acid if you add PEPPERS to your meals. Beta-cryptoxanthin, another carotenoid in PEPPERS, prevents lung cancer – related to smoking and the inhalation of second hand smoke.
  • PROMOTE HEALTHY LIPID PROFILES – Capsaicin decreases bad cholesterol and triglycerides. Vitamin K and other goodies inside the incredible PEPPER pod aid in the dissolution of fibrin, which is a necessary component for blood clots. Capsaicin strengthens blood vessels and aids in their ability to adjust to fluctuations in our blood pressure.

  1. Peel the yellow rind off the lemons using a sharp paring knife, leaving as much of the white pith as possible (bioflavonoids in the pith are a healing component). Slice each lemon into 4 chunks, remove the seeds, and throw the lemon pieces into your blender along with the water. Blend well. Strain the mixture through a fine sieve or nylon mesh bag into a bowl or pitcher. (You can purchase these bags at a paint store inexpensively.) If you are pressed for time, just use the juice of the lemons and don’t worry about the straining.
  2. Pour the strained juice into the blender. Add all the other ingredients except the ice cubes, and blend really well.
  3. Fill a quart jar with ice to the tippy top and then pour the blended lemon mixture over the ice. If it doesn’t reach the top, add remaining water until it does. Put a tight lid on the jar and shake it like you are a professional drink mixer. Uncap and adjust the flavor to “own it.” (Quite a bit of stevia is required to offset the strong tart effect of the lemon pith and turmeric and to balance the salt. If your Canary has too much bite, add more sweetener and/or vanilla and scale back on the turmeric next time.)
Recipe Notes

RECIPE AUTHOR: Serene Allison

This recipe has been formulated for tired, inflamed bodies; each ingredient was chosen to be a powerful adrenal healer. This beverage has no caffeine, it contains only ingredients that together create a delicious ADRENAL REVIVER! It contains 1 teaspoon of adrenal rebuilding, inflammation-fighting turmeric powder.  Certain lemons have stronger flavored pith than others. If you find using all the white from your lemon is causing too bitter a taste in your drink, you can use only the juice from your lemons. You’ll be missing out on the bio flavonoids which make the vitamin C more easily absorbed so make sure to use a buffered, vitamin C ascorbic powder that contains bioflavonoids.

Note for pregnant women - Turmeric is considered safe during pregnancy when consumed as a food. There is some concern that it may possibly stimulate the uterus to cause contractions when used as a supplement however ginger has similar properties and concerns and it is often suggested by doctor’s to treat morning sickness for pregnant women. It is common for 3 teaspoons of turmeric to be suggested as supplement dosage. We think the 1 teaspoon in the Canary is a safer dose for pregnant women as that is the amount that people in India consume on average through food. But, we are not doctors. Each pregnant mama should consult the advice of her physician. If concerned, pregnant women can always reduce the amount of both Turmeric and Vitamin C to 1/4 dose or not drink the full two quarts per day just to stay on the cautious side. The full dose of vitamin C is not recommended for pregnant women.

NOTE: If you’d rather use fresh ginger, blend a good-size nob of the root (about 5 ounces) with ¾ cup water until it is completely broken down. Now add 1¼ cups more water (for a total of 2 cups) and blend well again. Pour into ice-cube trays and place in freezer. When frozen, put the cubes in zippies and store in the freezer. Use 1 or 2 of these ginger cubes in place of the powder in your Good Girl Moonshine.
