Community Testimony: Trinity King

Trinity King Today.

I was gifted the first Trim Healthy Mama book (the big honkin’ one) in 2015 from my mother-in-law. I read it and loved it, but I didn’t start following the plan right away. I kinda-sorta tried implementing a few things here and there, but I really had no real clue what exactly I was trying to do. I was not serious about it just yet.

Fast forward a year, and our family had moved 15 hours away to another state but came “home” for my sister-in-law’s wedding in September of 2016. While we were staying at my in-laws’, I happened to hop on their scale and was astounded by the number I saw. I knew I had been gaining weight; I mean, I was having to shop plus sizes and was wearing a size 2x-3x, but it didn’t really hit me until I saw that number of 230 lbs.

Fast forward another few months and we ended up moving back to our home state. A few weeks after we moved back home, for some reason, I decided “now is the time”! It was December 5th, 2016 that I jumped in. I wasn’t perfect, but I made big changes. I didn’t buy a ton of special ingredients right away. I slowly stocked up over the course of several weeks. But I was hooked. Even with my simple meals and feeling super hungry constantly the first week or two, I knew my body was adjusting and I kept myself satisfied with FP shakes or ìEasy Chocolate Milkî (Trim Healthy Mama Cookbook, page 439) between meals when I felt like I just couldn’t wait any longer.

I saw the scale start moving immediately and it was incredibly encouraging! I couldn’t believe it. Days, weeks, and months were passing. I saw the scale drop 10 lbs, 20 lbs, 30 lbs… and I wasn’t even exercising! I was amazed! I was having to buy new clothes and able to wear old clothes that hadn’t fit me in months or years! My favorite knee-high moccasin boots, that I couldn’t zip the whole way for probably 2 years, finally ZIPPED! The inches seemed to be dropping as quickly as the pounds.

Trinity King: Before

It was not normal for me to share super personal stuff, like my weight, on social media, but I just couldn’t keep this stuff to myself. I started sharing each and every scale victory and non-scale victory. My friends were so encouraging and many of them became interested in THM themselves and have also had great success! My husband has been a huge supporter from the very beginning and he comments often not only on how amazing I look, but how much more confident and happy I am, and how much more energy I have. He himself is super active and fit and, if anything, could stand to gain some weight. Ha! So I make sure he gets Crossovers at meal times (along with our two boys, ages 6 and 4) and he has made great strides in the choices he makes when packing his lunch (lots of yogurt, fruit, cheese, veggies, sandwiches, etc).

Honestly, I love the THM cookbooks, but I really don’t use them terribly often to cook meals. I typically try to keep things very simple and just “wing it” most days. Protein, fat or carb, and veggies. Simple. Yummy. Easy. I will add rice or potatoes or butter bread with no-sugar jelly to S meals for my hubby and boys. Or, I will lather on the butter or cream to the E meals for them. I’m not a meal planner, but I am trying to be a little more organized and prepared when it comes to meals. I do use the cookbooks a lot for desserts, though. I have always had a HUGE sweet tooth and the on-plan sweeteners have been the key in THM being such a success for me. I used to eat some kind of dessert every day, maybe multiple times a day, in the beginning of my journey. However, I feel like I’ve maybe gotten a little more reasonable… maybe. 😉 I do still like my sweets and try to always have something made up, so it’s there when I get a hankering. My favorite dessert lately, that I’ve even been taking to friendsí houses, is the ìLemon Cream Pieî in Trim Healthy Table, page 408. It is SO amazing. And this is coming from someone who would never, EVER touch a lemon dessert because I always hated them. But since my hubby loves lemon desserts, I decided to make this pie for his 29th birthday. I, of course, tried it….and ended up having 2 pieces because it was so good! I’ve made it many times since then.

Trinity King: After!

In total, I’ve been on plan for 1 year and 8 months. I have lost a total of 54 lbs and went from a size 18/20 to an 8/10! The last time I took measurements was in June 2017. So, from the time I started THM to June 2018, I have lost 1.5 inches from my neck, 7 inches from my bust, 11 inches from my waist, 16 inches from my midsection, 6 inches from each thigh, and at least 1.5 inches from each calf! Oh, and a favorite, recent NSV is that I have stopped biting my fingernails! I’ve tried many times in the past, but always started again. But for some reason, this time is different and I know it has to do with THM. And they are growing in so quickly and strong, which they have never done before! This is super exciting for me. Ha!!

THM has been the best thing EVER, and I’m currently working toward becoming a certified coach! I never, ever thought I would be here. I honestly was starting to think I just needed to accept “fat life” and that was just who I was now. But THM really is EASY. Yes, there is a little learning curve, but stick with it. It will be SO worth it. It will change your life. But you have to want it. You have to be ready for it. And you have to have patience. You CAN do it. And every one of us THMamas will be there for you, cheering you on, and celebrating with you as you reach all of your goals.

If you would like to follow my journey on social media, I post all my scale and non-scale victories there and pretty much ALL of my meals there, you can find me on Instagram at @trinhealthymama or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/trinhealthymama.
